I did the arithmetic once, late, on the sort of evening where you decide to be honest with yourself for twenty minutes. Years of membership, and I have drawn four of them here. Every payment made, not one of them missed, not one of them late. And then the other column: the months in which I actually walked through the door, even once. Figure 1.1 is that comparison. I have drawn it from memory rather than from records, so treat the exact dots as approximate and the shape as exact.
