Grok Bot Made Crystal Clear · chapter 3: Getting Started

The watching surface, annotated

2026-10-11

The running feed shows each step as it happens; an approval gate interrupts the feed and waits for you before a sensitive action goes out.

Below: the paragraphs from the book that build this idea, then the diagram itself (Figure 3.1), and a recap. About a minute of reading.

Resist the urge to start the task and walk away the first time. The whole value of watching is that it is cheap now and expensive later: a habit you skip on your first, low-stakes task is a habit you will not magically pick up on your fifth, higher-stakes one. Sit with the feed for at least a few minutes, read the step descriptions as they appear rather than skimming the final summary, and get a feel for the pace and the level of detail the bot shows you before you decide how closely to watch future tasks.

Figure 3.1 shows what to look for on that watching surface: where the running activity appears, and where an approval gate interrupts it.
