Supabase was founded in 2020 by Paul Copplestone (CEO) and Ant Wilson (CTO) and went through Y Combinator's Summer 2020 batch as, in TechCrunch's words, "a Postgres-based open source alternative to Google's Firebase". The funding story since then is unusually fast, and it is worth having the dates straight because they tell you two things about the company you are about to depend on: it is well capitalised, and its growth is tied to AI coding tools.
