Two separate corporate events collided to produce one product with two front doors. The first is a merger: SpaceX and xAI (the company behind Grok) merged in early 2026, and the combined AI entity was formally renamed from xAI to SpaceXAI on 6 July 2026. The Grok product name itself did not change. The second is an acquisition: SpaceX agreed in June 2026 (reported 16 June 2026) to buy Cursor's parent company, Anysphere, for 60 billion dollars in an all-stock deal, reported as the largest startup acquisition of a venture-backed startup on record. Cursor did not disappear. It became a subsidiary of the same company that now owns Grok.
