Why Grok Bot signs you in with a Cursor account

You read about Grok Bot at x.ai. You open the app, and it asks for a Grok Bot Cursor account sign in. Cursor is an AI coding company. Did you land in the wrong place?
You did not, but the puzzle has a cost. A plan link is permanent, so if you make a fresh Cursor account on a whim, your plan can end up tied to the wrong one.

How to read this figure
Start top left: the merger. SpaceX and xAI, the company behind Grok, merged on 2 February 2026. That is the first link: the Grok side joined SpaceX. The deal size on the box is background; you can skip it.
Follow the top row right. On 12 June, SpaceX sold shares to the public for the first time. Four days later, it agreed to buy Anysphere, the company behind Cursor. The deal closed on 14 August. Now one owner held both Grok and Cursor.
Drop to the bottom row. In July, xAI took the name SpaceXAI, and the Grok name stayed. On 11 August, Grok Bot launched in early beta at x.ai. It began inside Cursor, under the working name Sand shown in the shaded box. So the product came from the Cursor side and launched on the Grok side.
End at the right. In October the company began calling itself SpaceXSI, SI for Super Intelligence. On 12 October it launched The X Subscription, one family of plans for Grok, Cursor, X Premium and Grok Bot.

Yes. SpaceXSI is the one company that makes Grok and Grok Bot. Older pages call it xAI or SpaceXAI: the same company under earlier names. Its legal name is still SpaceXAI LLC.
